How to Organize Your Kit Tags + Segments With Folders

If you’ve ever opened your Tags or Segments inside Kit and felt your eye twitch a little… same.

Great news: Kit (formerly ConvertKit) just released one of the most-requested features of all time – folders for tags, segments, and products.

This means you can finally stop scrolling through a chaotic master list of everything you’ve ever created and start organizing your backend in a way that actually makes sense.

Let’s break down what this update includes and how you can use it in a “my future self will thank me” way.

What’s new inside Kit?

  • Custom folders for tags, segments, and products

  • Bulk select + delete (perfect for seasonal cleanup or retired offers)

  • Cleaner navigation that makes it easier to find what you need

This is truly one of those tiny updates that makes your whole email system feel lighter.

Smart ways to use folders

These are the setups I recommend for anyone selling digital products, running launches, or juggling multiple customer journeys.

1. Launch Campaign Folders

Keep every tag + segment tied to a specific launch in one place.

Great for:

  • Prelaunch vs launch vs post-launch segmentation

  • Tracking opens/clicks during the promo

  • Quick cleanup once the promo ends

  • Comparing performance across launches

Folder name ideas:

  • [Product] Promo - 2025 Q4

  • [Product] Black Friday - 2025

  • [Product] Waitlist - 2026

2. Product-Specific Folders

Every product gets its own folder. Inside, you store:

  • Buyer tag(s)

  • Non-buyer tag

  • Upsell/downsells segments

  • Clickers/non-clickers segments

  • Product-related automations

This makes troubleshooting and auditing automations so much easier.

3. Audience Journey Folders

Think of these as buckets for subscriber behavior.

Some examples:

  • “New Subscribers Onboarding”

  • “Engaged Subscribers”

  • “VIP Buyers”

  • “Inactive 90 Days”

A clean structure makes it easier to personalize your emails.

4. Seasonal or Funnel-Specific Folders

If you’re running multiple funnels or seasonal sales pushes:

  • “Q1 Low-Ticket Funnel”

  • “Evergreen – Lead Magnet A”

  • “Bundle Leads”

  • “Holiday Promo – Cleanup February 1st”

This keeps your backend from feeling like a junk drawer.

5. Cleanup + Archive Folders

This is where you can bulk-select old or irrelevant tags and delete them in one go.

Think:

  • Old freebies

  • Retired offers

  • Campaigns from 3 years ago

  • Duplicated tags

Pro Tip:
Create one folder called “TO DELETE – REVIEW FIRST”. Drop old stuff in there, then do a final pass before bulk deleting to make sure you’re not deleting anything in an active automation.

Why this update is such a big deal

If you’re scaling with digital products, your email list is your business. And a disorganized tagging system slows everything down.

And how well you organize that list determines:

  • How personalized your emails can be

  • How effective your segments are

  • How quickly you can build or fix automations

  • How confident you feel launching or running funnels

If you’ve been thinking about switching to Kit or getting your backend cleaned up, this came at the perfect time.
